From First to Third
This fall, open home meetings at Ashville Road will discuss firsts, seconds, and thirds.
Our theme immediately conjures up the image of a runner progressing from first base to third in a game of baseball. The Christian life isn’t meant to leave us stranded on first. God wants to bring us home! For that to happen, we must grow. If your spiritual life has become stagnate and there’s no progression, these biblical discussions will help you break out of the rut and “press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 3:14).
Another idea from athletics involving firsts, seconds, and thirds relates to rankings, as in the gold, silver, and bronze medals in the Olympics. In addition to progression, these top numbers make us think of priorities. What comes first in your life? Are you ranking your values and responsibilities properly?
Each month will highlight a different number from the Scriptures.
In September, we will put first things first. The lessons will address beginnings and priorities:
“First Adam” will focus on the origin of human beings, sin, redemption, and hope (1 Corinthians 15:45-49).
“First Place” will challenge us to prioritize the kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33).
In October, we will see that seconds matter. We all stumble, but God is merciful and gives second chances.
“Second Chances” will reveal God’s law of pardon to sinful people who repent.
“Second Fiddle” will encourage us to stay humble in our salvation.
In November, we will wrap up the study concentrating on thirds. These studies will emphasize God’s presence and completion.
“Third Day” will get us thinking about the hope in Christ’s resurrection.
“Third Heaven” will inspire us to live in the present for our future glory with God in eternity.
In addition to our discussions in open home meetings, each sermon during the fall quarter will focus on firsts, seconds, and thirds.
Join us as we run from first to third. And be sure to bring a friend!
