What We Do

Service

Service is something that we, as followers of Christ, are told to do. Because of this, the Ashville Road Youth Group makes it a point to serve others at least once a month. From clothing/feeding the homeless, to visiting area shut-ins, we intend to carry the banner of the cross to those need it.

Devos

It may be an understatement to say so, but we really like Jesus. As a result, we try to take time to worship Him outside of regular worship times. On the first Sunday night of each month, we meet to hang out, eat, and worship God through our monthly devos. The preteen group (grades 4-6) also meets throughout the year after Sunday morning worship for lunch and a devo as well. On top of that, on the 3rd Sunday night of every month (except for in June and July), we worship with other Birmingham area youth groups in area-wide devos.

Retreats

Sometimes it’s good to get away. We as human beings get so confused with how fast life gets, and if we don’t take a moment to slow down and focus on our spiritual lives, we will get caught up in the speed of this world. Fall and Spring retreats are a time for us to “retreat” from our everyday lives to honestly assess where we are spiritually, and to find ways to strengthen our relationship with God.

Bible Study

Brace yourself: Christians do not study their Bible as much as they need to. It is our objective to constantly seek out ways to study God’s word and learn from His wisdom. We do not claim to be the most pious or studied group. We are actually far from that, but we want to make a point to study God’s word outside of when we meet for church. Each Friday, a group of college aged students meets for coffee and a frank and honest discussion of the Bible and how it fits into our personal lives. On top of this, and other meeting times, we seek to actively grow in the Word on our own so that we can grow spiritually together, yet be empowered to grow on our own.

Mission Trips

It is our goal to carry the Gospel of Jesus and the Word of God to those who would otherwise have no chance of hearing it. We seek to extend the footprint of the Lord’s Church through mission trips both at home and abroad. It is stressed that everyday we are surrounded by a mission field, but once a year we make time to take ourselves out of our everyday lives and travel to a place that needs Christ. We are carrying out the mission that was given to us in Matthew 28:20.

Mom’s Day Out

Throughout the summer, we give the moms a chance to slow down as well. The youth group sponsors a chance for the mothers of the congregation to drop their kids (aged 5-6th grade) off at the building, while safe and competent individuals look after them for the majority of a day. We also make trips such as to the McWane Center or the Zoo on top of things like finger painting and our annual water wars.
