So, it is already mid-October and fall is throwing everything it has into the beauty of the season.  It’s a great time to be a football fan, and it’s about to be an even better time to be a bird watcher.  The days are warm, the nights are crisp.  All of this means only one thing.  The Great Fall Festival is only 2 weeks away!  This year’s Great Fall Festival is going to be truly an awesome one.  We have some great things planned, and are expecting a whole lot of people to come!  The great thing about this particular event is that it gives everyone a chance to participate.  No matter how old or young one is, they can have a hand in making this event a success.  An even greater thing is that you don’t have to actually COME in order to pitch in.  There are food signups in the foyer for anyone who would like to provide help with the food.  There are postcards next to the signups for anyone who would like to take a couple home with them and hand them out to their friends or co-workers.  The Great Fall Festival is a perfect time for us all to get together and show the world what a hardworking family we have here at Ashville Road, and it is one where we can potentially help to make this family grow!  Some things to know right now:

    • Teens are having an SoS today right after church, we will be meeting until about 1:00 p.m.
    • I would like to know how each station is coming along; if you are in charge of a station, just check in with me or shoot me an email through the church’s website.

I want to thank everyone who is helping to support the Great Fall Festival and who is ensuring a success for our kids this October 24th!

It’s finally upon us!  The 2008 Fall Festival is scheduled for November 1st from 3 pm to 6 pm.  Plans are already underway, and sign-up sheets are posted in the foyer.  The event is for the entire congregation, plus friends and family.  In addition, because this is the same weekend as our Friends and Family Day (Nov. 2nd), we hope you can bring your visitors to also enjoy Ashville Road’s Fall Festival.  We always have a big crowd, and many volunteers are needed to help make this happen.  Here are five ways everyone can help prepare: Continue reading »

Lockers are being assigned. Lunch menus are now posted on the web. Football and band practices are in full swing. It’s hard to believe, but it is school time again!

This year Ashville Road has collected many school supplies for the needy children of Leeds elementary. Over the past month many crayons, scissors, markers, pencils, notebooks, folders, and much more, have been donated for the give-a-way. We’re excited to help those in need and also to let the community know about the Lord’s church in their area.

Saturday, August 9th, many of the school children and their parents will come to the church building to pick up their supplies. The first full week of school for Leeds will begin on Monday, August 11th. This opportunity will give them enough time to collect their supplies and use them throughout the year. Thank you to all those who participated in this program.

Next week the teenagers of the Ashville Road Youth will take their sixth-annual summer mission campaign. This is always one of the most challenging but rewarding weeks throughout the year. Our week will be spent working with the Inner City Church of Christ in Chattanooga, TN. We’ll join the Beltline Church of Christ, and others, in order to be a spiritual encouragement to God’s people there and to also reach out to the lost in their community.

An average day will go as follows. First thing every morning we’ll have a morning devotional and make preparations for the Neighborhood Bible Schools. Next, we’ll conduct the first Neighborhood Bible School of the day. A NBS is much like a Vacation Bible School, except that everything we do is done in the actual inner city neighborhoods of Chattanooga. We’ll canvass the neighborhood for children and then meet in a centralized location. Our group will then sing, have a lesson, play games, do crafts, and so on. We’ll have as many as 2-4 NBS going on at once throughout the city of Chattanooga. Then, following lunch we’ll conduct our second NBS of the day. Our group will then head to the hotel for rest, clean-up, and then supper. At 7:00 pm each evening we’ll enjoy a gospel meeting conducted by the preacher of the Inner City Church of Christ. Each day will conclude on a high-note with a devotional on Chattanooga’s Riverfront.

We’ll certainly have a very busy but effective campaign next week. Please pray for our safety, but, more importantly, for our work. Our hope is that many souls will be strengthened through our efforts. And, that many lost souls will be brought to Christ.
