Hezekiah was one of the few good kings who reigned over God’s people after the kingdom divided.  When he fell ill and Isaiah the prophet told him he would die, he turned his face to the wall and prayed for deliverance.  God answered his prayer, granting him fifteen more years of life.

An experience like that gives you perspective.  This was certainly true in Hezekiah’s case.  After his recovery he wrote a poem expressing his gratitude.  One of the lines makes an interesting point about death:

For Sheol does not thank you; death does not praise you; those who go down to the pit do not hope for your faithfulness. (Is. 38:18) Continue reading »

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is one of the easiest things ever done!  You may be asking yourself, “What is Neil talking about?”  Well here is your answer!  From time to time I am going to give you guys missions.  These are things that you are to do throughout the week that can make a big difference in someone’s life.  The best part about it is this:  the missions are not difficult in the slightest.  These are small things that can be accomplished right after church if you feel the need.  Hopefully everyone who reads this will spend their whole week performing their mission for said week.  So for the next week, dwell on this mission; but most importantly, do it.  Do this mission and continue to do it and watch the people around you as they experience joy at your mission.  So without further adieu, here it is:

    The Mission

There’s probably a person in your life who is always there for you, and you tend to take them for granted. Find a way to show them that you appreciate their support and friendship.

You know the person I’m talking about. The one you can always turn to for help when you’re in need; the one who always picks up the phone when you call. These people have been there for us through thick and thin, and we may not think much about it anymore. Let’s reflect on how important these people really are to us, and find a way to show our appreciation for their presence in our lives. Give a hug, write a note, buy ‘em a coffee, make them dinner – something that will be meaningful to them.
