Those of you who were at our evening services yesterday heard about the passing of Brother Wagner Johnston. He died yesterday about the time our evening worship services began.
His funeral and visitation services will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville tomorrow, April 14. The visitation is open to the public at 1 p.m., and the funeral will follow at 2 p.m.

In the early days of the Israelite monarchy, God commanded Saul, “Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey” (1 Samuel 15:3).
Saul defeated the Amalekites, but he disobeyed the Lord by saving Agag the king and sparing “the best of the sheep and of the oxen and of the fattened calves and the lambs, and all that was good” (1 Samuel 15:9). When Samuel confronted him, Saul blamed others, saying the people spared the best of the sheep and oxen to sacrifice to the Lord. Yes, he had spared Agag’s life, but the rest had been devoted to destruction. Continue reading »

Gloria Harrington sent an email this morning to let us know that she, Jim, and Mary Beth Greenway made it back safely from Belize, where they spent almost two weeks assisting in a medical mission campaign. I thought you would be interested in her report:
We arrived home late this evening from another great trip to Belize. We were able to perform surgical procedures for 52 people, plus evaluate countless others who wanted to see the doctor. Some are already waiting for the next time we will go there for their surgery. Continue reading »

After Jesus’ resurrection, he encountered two disciples who were on their way to the village of Emmaus, about seven miles outside of Jerusalem (Lk. 24:13-15). Strangely, they did not recognize their Lord and talked with him about the events that had transpired in Jerusalem over the last few days (v. 16). Over the course of this unusual conversation, Jesus decided to correct some of their mistaken impressions concerning his own mission and purpose. And so we read, “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself” (v. 27). Continue reading »
