The beginning of 2 Samuel is much darker than the beginning of 1 Samuel. In the first book, we learn of the birth of one of Israel’s greatest prophets, but in the second, we’re saddened by the death of one of its greatest kings. King David hears of his predecessor’s death, and that of Saul’s son – Jonathan, and makes this exclamation, “How have the mighty fallen!” (2 Sam. 1:19, 25, 27). The lives of Saul and Jonathan were taken in the midst of battle. They were warring against the Philistines and their enemy was too great. David’s dirge for these two leaders is almost prophetic of what will soon happen to him. It will not be a death of the body, but rather the death of a soul. Continue reading »

We had a great gospel meeting last week with Lonnie Jones. Not only did we learn much regarding family, marriage, and child rearing, but we also received some important lessons on Christian service and dealing with suffering. Many of you have signed up to receive copies of these lessons on CD. The signup sheet is still in the foyer for those who haven’t had a chance to make a request. Also, Lonnie’s lessons have been posted online in an audio format. Listen to them in streaming audio, or download them to your computer or portable device. Go to www.arcoc.com.
The gospel meeting is over. Now what? It is not time to rest on our laurels. There is much to do as fall approaches. Continue reading »

A new feature has been added to the navigation pane on the left side of the screen. Now visitors may listen to sermons delivered at Ashville Road. These will be uploaded for every Sunday service. You can listen in two ways: either by streaming audio or by downloading an MP3 file to your computer or iPod.
This week we are uploading all of the lessons from our gospel meeting with Lonnie Jones. These lessons are so good, we want to get them out to the public in as many ways as possible. Download them, listen to them, and share them with a friend!

Lockers are being assigned. Lunch menus are now posted on the web. Football and band practices are in full swing. It’s hard to believe, but it is school time again!
This year Ashville Road has collected many school supplies for the needy children of Leeds elementary. Over the past month many crayons, scissors, markers, pencils, notebooks, folders, and much more, have been donated for the give-a-way. We’re excited to help those in need and also to let the community know about the Lord’s church in their area.
Saturday, August 9th, many of the school children and their parents will come to the church building to pick up their supplies. The first full week of school for Leeds will begin on Monday, August 11th. This opportunity will give them enough time to collect their supplies and use them throughout the year. Thank you to all those who participated in this program.
